Hello neighbors! There has been a change to the Liberty Township Zoning Code regarding planting new trees along the street. The updated resolution, found here (pages 7-4 and 7-5), states:
Street Trees shall be placed a minimum of five (5) feet from the road right-of-ways.
This means when planting any new trees along the street, they must be five feet beyond the right-of-way, which is likely NOT between the sidewalk and street. The “right-of-way” is a portion of the land that is considered controlled by the local government and is generally considered to be 60 feet wide in total including the roadway and the land next to the road.
Be sure to keep this new rule in mind when planting any trees and direct any questions to the Liberty Township Zoning Department at 740-938-2010.
